The second Art Studies Project in 1977 was an 11 week course made with 11 schools. The photos below are of Sacred Heart pupils taken during the project.

Part of the project involved making supersite posters and recording them in public places. The last three weeks included video production at the Cockpit. The course timetable for the Autumn Term 1977 was reproduced in the first issue of Schooling and Culture.

The work was exhibited in the foyer of the  Cockpit Theatre. A catalogue described the ideas and included teacher’s feedback.

Under the name of the Cockpit Art Department, some of the video work of the Art Studies Project was shown at the Whitechapel Art Gallery’s Art for Society: Contemporary British Art with a Social or Political Purpose (10 May – 18 June 1978) curated by Nicholas Serota

Adrian Chappell wrote a review of the exhibition in Schooling and Culture Issue 2.

A report on the work of the Art Studies Project can be found in Photography, Class and Schooling pps12-21, with an analysis of how it led to the Schools Photography Project in 1978-84.
