Betteshanger
A collaboration between Walworth School, Adrian Chappell from Cultural Studies and Claire Grey from the Cockpit Gallery. The school visited the mining village of Betteshanger in Kent every year, including in 1984, during the miners’ strike. The exhibition was made in 1986. It was retained by the school and never shown in the Gallery. No images of the panels were made, and the photographs below were taken by Claire on the 12 December 1984 visit.
The ILEA inspectorate had concerns about the Cockpit’s intention to mount an exhibition on Political Education.
