Dolls House (Sept 9 – Oct 9 1985)

Dolls House

Dolls House is about a year in the life of a girls’ band. Jointly produced by themselves and the Cockpit Cultural Studies Department, the exhibition records how, on leaving school, four school friends set out to form a band. The exhibition describes how they began making music, writing songs and getting their first gigs. It sets their progress against the backdrop of youth unemployment and dead-end jobs while offering a wary view of the music industry itself. A supplementary booklet is also available. This is based on the exhibition’s photos and text but also includes comments from Cockpit tutors on music-making with girls.
