Helen Taylor
In 1885 Helen Taylor became the first woman to try to stand for parliament more than 30 years before women got the vote. The exhibition looks at Helen Taylor as a feminist and political activist and, through her, raises some of the major political and social issues of the time; the Irish question, the struggle for women’s rights, and the reform of the education system. 100 years later many of the issues around which she campaigned are still as relevant. This exhibition produced by the Cockpit Cultural Studies Dept., Cockpit Gallery, and Dave Russell, a teacher from Walworth School, will be available from January 1986.
